Is level testing required? / What is the level testing process?
Level testing is NOT required to take classes. It is for attendees who feel they have a solid grasp of Lindy Hop and wish to attempt to test into one of the upper tracks. (Due to the space constraints of the venue, spots in the upper tracks are limited, and level placement is relative to the level of attendees who participate in level testing. We have space for roughly the top 15 percent of attendees in gold track and the top 30 percent of attendees in silver track. ONLY dancers who successfully qualify for silver track will then be able to audition for gold track if they wish.)
There will be 3 class “tracks”. Level testing is OPTIONAL for attendees, but it is required for silver and gold track classes and will take place Friday at 7:30pm sharp at Sons of Hermann Hall in the “Bowling Alley.” If you want to level test, don’t be late!! There will be a SMALL level testing Saturday morning at 9:30 am at Sammons Center, but most spots will be taken. We HIGHLY encourage you to test on Friday!
Expectations for being considered for silver or gold tracks:
You must demonstrate solid swingouts, circles, basic turns, and transitioning through movements seamlessly. We are looking for well-executed basics at a variety of tempos, a comfortable pulse and clear connection, and the ability to lead or follow Lindy Hop well with various partners. While there is no explicit requirement for how long you’ve been dancing, most people who test into silver or gold track will have been Lindy Hopping for at least a few years.
